Sir David Jason

Sir David John White OBE – Television legend, peerless comic actor, national treasure. And better known as David Jason.

From lovable rogue Del Boy Trotter to the driven (and grumpy and cheeky) detective Jack Frost, Jason has taken great roles and made them unforgettable – and the programmes in which he performs them hugely popular.

His path into acting is a classic tale of the small schoolboy deflecting the attention of bullies by making them laugh. Having an older brother, Arthur White, who had already started out as an actor helped too.

His early career involved many roles but his comic timing stood out, landing him plum jobs with some of the 1960s and early 70s biggest stars, including half of the Monty Python team and Bob Monkhouse.

His comic skills landed him parts with Ronnie Barker in two all–time classic sit-coms - as the young dreamer Granville in Open All Hours and as old lifer Blanco in Porridge – before he finally took the leading roles his talent (and time served) deserved.

Only Fools and Horses, The Darling Buds of May, A Touch of Frost, Dangermouse and many other huge hits followed, catapulting Jason to super stardom.

Jason has eased back his career since becoming a first-time father at 61, but he could retire tomorrow and know his acting life has been truly exceptional.
