In an era when Athletics – and especially sprinting - has been tarnished immeasurably by drug taking scandals, one man continues to excite and delight in equal measure.
That man is Jamaican Usain Bolt. He is box office writ enormous, a global star whose casual, jokey manner on the track hides a fierce competitiveness and incredible natural talent.
Bolt loves the limelight – and people love him for it. If a meet secures his presence, a sell-out crowd is guaranteed. And Bolt, especially in major championships, rarely fails to deliver.
His first Olympic gold came in Beijing in 2008 with a world record run in the 100m. He then broke the 200m record on his way to his second gold and was part of the 4x100m relay team that took gold (and the world record) for Jamaica.
Could he ever cap that? London 2012 saw Bolt achieve the 'double triple', breaking the 100m and 4x100m relay world records along the way. After the latter victory, Bolt even swapped his trademark 'Lightning Bolt' celebration for the Mo Farah-inspired 'Mobot'.
His laid-back approach to training – all chicken nuggets and minimal effort – are all part of the Bolt act. But his unwillingness to really push himself means the world will probably never witness Bolt breaking a world record that he is more than capable of achieving – the 400m.
Still, if he triumphs again in the sprints at Brazil 2016, we'll forgive him.
