The old football cliché about 'the first yard being in a player's head' could have been coined with Teddy Sheringham in mind.
The Millwall, Forest, Spurs, Man United, Portsmouth and West Ham (among others) second striker was never blessed with great speed. But quick feet and an even quicker mind earned him a career spanning three decades and 50+ caps England caps.
For a player who was scoring regularly in top-flight football in his early twenties, it took Sheringham until he was 33 before he won as major medal, helping United to the 1999 Premier League title.
His work that year was not over, however. First, he came off the bench to score United's first goal in their FA Cup final win over Newcastle. And then, just four days later, he netted a stoppage time equaliser in United's unlikely 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
Since retiring as a player, Sheringham has started to carve out a career as a coach, most notably on the support staff at West Ham.
