Phil "The Power" Taylor

No one man has dominated his chosen sport like Phil 'The Power' Taylor has dominated Darts.

In an extraordinary career, Taylor has been world champion 16 times, won 80 major titles and more than 200 pro tournaments all in.

None of his rivals has a winning record against him, he's hit a staggering nine televised nine-dart finishes and even managed two nine-darters in one astonishing match – the 2010 Premier League Darts final.

Amazingly for such a naturally talented darter, Taylor only started to take the game seriously in his twenties when his wife bought him a set of arrows. Darts legend Eric Bristow – who ran a pub near Taylor's home – then loaned him £10,000 so he could ditch the day job and turn pro.

The rest, as they say, is history.

But where did his nickname come from? Sky Sports' Peter Judge told Taylor he needed a nickname and promptly trod on an empty CD case of Snap's 1990 hit The Power – a perfect piece of serendipity if ever there was.
