South African motorsport legend Jody Scheckter's is a life lived. From the fast lane of Formula 1 to the rather more sedate pursuit of organic farming, Scheckter has never been afraid to split from the pack.
His F1 career was part brilliance, part controversy. His early years were marked by some spectacular crashes and calls for him to be banished from the sport. But after witnessing the horrific death of fellow driver Francois Cevert at Watkins Glen in 1974, Scheckter reined in the recklessness and went on to great things.
He was the only driver to win a race in the iconic six-wheel Tyrrell, helped Ferrari to a constructors' championship and won the F1 title for himself in 1979.
His defence of the title was a disaster, however, prompting his retirement from the sport.
Various successful business ventures followed and he now runs an organic farm in Hampshire.
