'Captain Marvel' or 'Captain Crocked' – England's all-action midfielder Bryan Robson's career involved highs and lows in equal measure.
When he was good, he was very, very good, scoring a hatful of goals and dominating midfield for both club and country. When he was bad it was because he was injured. And he was injured a lot.
At Manchester United, Robson was, mostly, Captain Marvel, guiding them to glory in three FA Cup and a European Cup Winners Cup campaign. His knack for scoring goals after perfectly-timed late runs into the box always caught the eye, most notably for England after just 27 seconds of their 1982 World Cup group game against France.
But injury wrecked both his chances at the next two World Cups and a huge amount of his domestic career - his impressive 23 years as a pro footballer only amounted to 607 games. If he'd stayed fitter, that total would have been much higher.
He ended his playing days as player/manager at Middlesbrough but the highs and lows kept coming in management – promotions, cup final defeats, relegations and one miraculous escape from the drop (at West Brom).
His last managerial job was with Thailand and whatever his future in the game, he will always be remembered as one of England's greatest ever players.
